NOAA (AVHRR)

Remote sensing data from NOAA satellite series is used for long-term weather forecasts, atmosphere monitoring, snow and ice coverage monitoring and for other purposes. The data is stored in the satellite’s storage device, and then transmitted to the Earth.

In our day the data from 3 NOAA satellites is received in FECRPSD. These satellites are NOAA-15, NOAA-18 and NOAA-19.

NOAA imagery applications:

  • Retrieval of atmospheric vertical profile characteristics (temperature, humidity etc.);
  • Synoptic maps creation;
  • Ice border monitoring;
  • Forest and steppe fires detection;
  • Sea ice cover monitoring;
  • Flood monitoring
